I want to re-do my education.
The earliest memory I have of my childhood is of dancing in school when I was in Junior Kindergarten. They were good times, the kindergarten years. When studying meant learning useful things the fun way.
Then came the formative years of middle schooling which went by like a breeze and brought along the dreadful high school. Education in high school meant endless tests, projects and exams. The syllabus consisted of the most repetitive, vague, and boring content. It was so badly curated that there was no way to score marks except if you mugged it all up and vomited it on the answer sheets.
Junior college to me. meant just appearing for the exams so I can't say much about it. The final years of my education have also been the most memorable ones. It was in these three years that I understood what an ideal teacher is like and how terrible a teacher one could possibly be. Lastly, it was in these years I realised how much of an impact does the content have on our results.
Education system in India is screwed. I mean if history can be changed based on who's in governance then what else can we call it if not screwed? Secondly, the number of children who are deprived of an education due to underdevelopment makes me want to cry. Forget a decent education, there isn't even an opportunity for them to get access to education at all. The education policies and developments are always overlooked by the powerful who can actually make a difference.
If there's one thing that I really wish I could do then that would be re-do my whole education in Finland which seems highly unlikely. So the next best thing is to contribute in creating an education system in India based on one that exists in Finland. At least, our future generations will be guaranteed an excellent education then.
